FireWood is my reaction to control and precison.

After forty years of making things to high tolerances, I realized that my perennial way of working very precisely just wasn’t very FUN anymore! I thought: “What if I let the medium dictate the result? What if I invite the wood to tell its story?” These pieces are the results. I shape without a shape in mind, just a single word, like: “Flow” or “Smooth” or “Heart” or “Fish”. (Okay, those last two are shapes, but, hey!) The results are truly the story of the wood. I then choose to celebrate “defects”, in the Kintsugi tradition. Voids can be filled with oceans or universes qnd highlighted with 24 karat gold leaf.

I try to get out of the way, and let the Wood speak.
